Fifth graders just finished the action component of Exhibition. As usual, we were in awe of what the students accomplished. Some examples of the actions taken are shown above. Osei and Jairan brought in the pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, Joe Savery, and professional boxer, Lou Savarese, to talk to the kids about childhood obesity. Sunnie and Maia went to the Houston Zoo and conducted an interview about how they help endagered species as well as writing, illustrating, and presenting a children's book about these animals. Miranda and Jade wrote a letter to the president of the U.S. asking for help with water contamination and also made a movie to inform other students about the issue. Sharonya and Amna managed to have the entire school take a vow of silence during lunch to symbolize children all over the world who do not have a voice. Amy, Elissa, and Gabby created a painting that will be sold to raise money for a new child abuse shelter. Estelle and Cambre arranged for the Houston Police Department to bring in two different types of service dogs to demonstrate their abilities to all of fifth grade. Believe it or not, this is just a small handful of the actions that our amazing students have taken. Check out the comments to see what other students did.
My topic for exhibition is dog fighting. For my action my partner and I made flyers that we posted around the school. We also put them into the 5th grade tuesday floders. We also wrote a fact book and read it to the 3rd grade classes so the main idea of our action was to teach or educate people about how bad dog fighting is!

ReplyDeleteMy topic for exhibition is endangered animals. Maia(my partner) and I made a children's picture book for our action. We made a book to educate children about endnagered animals. We drew the pictures and wrote/typed the book. We owe a lot to our mentors, we couldn't have done it without them. Thank you Mr.Campbell and Mrs.Wang! Our mentors and a lot of our classmates thought that our book was good enough to publish. It took a lot of hard work but it was worth it. We read our book, "Are We Endangered" to Mrs.Vanunu's class. We are going to read our book to Mrs.Hasan's class too. We also interviewed Peter Riger, the director of the Houston Zoo Conservations. Then we went to a store and bought 10 smoke detectors.Now we are going to give it to the Houston Fire department and they are going to give that to the people that don't own any smoke detectors.What we also did was we created a blog for smoke detectors. So we set up the donation stand and asked the costumers if they would donate money. We got 106 dollars from the donations. Then I went to Walmart and bought the smoke detectors. ReplyDeleteMy action is telling the 2graders and the kindergardeners about global warming(not all 2graders and kindergardeners class) and pass out brochures and flyers.
The action my group took for Exhibition was to paint a painting for a man named Ken who's trying to sell paintings to people and he's using the money to try to make his own child abuse shelter.

My topic is “How Testing on Mice Helps in the Production of Golden Nanoshells”. For our action, Brayla and I went a lab, Nanospectra Bioscience, Inc., and learned about golden nanoshells and animal testing. Then we arranged for Mr. Payne, the CEO of Nanospectra, to visit Roberts and talk to the Fifth Grade about how golden nanoshells kill cancer and how testing on mice is important in their development. After Mr. Payne’s visit , the Fifth Grade is more aware of how animal testing can be beneficial as well as how golden nanoshells work in the treatment of cancer.

• The lab was really small and where they kept the mice was a controlled environment. The door to the lab was locked.
• The mice were kept in small, clear boxes about the size of a shoe box
• Little water bottles on the side of the cages with small bowls for food. There were even toys for the mice to play with
I hope this action will benefit others.
My topic is how construction effects the environment. For our action, we made a petition and a letter and sent it to the City Council, telling them to tell construction companies to use more eco-friendly ways to build buildings.

Jonathan and I went to the farmers market to get plant-waste in my dad's car. I brought a trash bag to put the plant-waste in. When we were done we went back to the school and rushed to the composing bins. We dumped the plant-waste in the composing bins which was dirty. The reason is that they decompose.

My topic for exhibition is kidnapping. For our action my partner and I did safety cards. And we are going to classes to talk to them about kidnapping and how to stay safe. ReplyDeleteMy topic for exhibition is spay and neutering and how it helps/affects the overpopulation of pets. Like Anais said for action we did make stuff animal dogs but we also made bookmarks, stickers, and origami (even though they didn't sell as well as the dogs)! When we were done selling the total was around 63 dollars and we haven't even counted our coins! Also just the part I bought was about 45 lbs! This week we will bring the food to a shelter in the Hights. The shelter that our mentor, Ms. Herrick, introduced us to was called Friends for Life. She has a friend there who thinks the overpopulation of pets must stop theres just too many unwanted puppies and kittens! Thinking about how many pets we're going to save just makes we so happy ! But of course I couldn't have done this without my partner and my mentor! Thank you Anais and Ms. Herrick.

ReplyDeleteWhen my exhibition partner and I went to pick up trash on one single street we filled up four bags with trash from the street in almost less than seven minutes that is because so much trash is being thrown or forgotten.That is why we are trying to encourage students, teachers, parents or anybody to go out and at least pick up one single piece of trash because one thing can make a big difference.

hi, I loved my action! It was great to learn that their is so many people intrested in helping my project. For my action we asked some professional police and rescue d ogs to come in and teach fith grade the importance of service dog's deeds! Our action included the training of service dogs. I think that it is great that fith graders get to help intrest or protect a project that fasinates us! Our speakers for action included Officer Nancy DeMartin and Officer Dosson with their dogs Zeus and Raidar. Zeus demonstrated The police dog training process with a skill called "the arm". Zues's owner Officer Dosson got Officer Nancy DeMartin to wear a special padded arm called "the arm" and then Officer Dosson wispered a attack command in Zeus's and WOW, Zeus ran at full speed toward "the arm" and clung on to it with all of his might. I was amazed that Zeus didn't let go of "the arm" until Officer Dosson said the magic stop word and Zeus let go! Then Officer Nancy DeMartin told us that rescue dogs like Raidar help during crisesess like 9/11
